In karting, weight can make a huge difference. While your laptimes are mostly determined by your driving technique and lines, heavier drivers are usually disadvantaged by the combined weight of themselves and the kart – which the engine is having to pull out of the corners. The lighter the driver, the easier it is for the engine to pull!
As a general rule, a driver of the same standard will lose around 0.2s per lap on our circuit for every 10kg increase in weight.
So, for July/August 2018, we’re offering our race-equalising ‘Weight Ballast’ upgrade completely free (to selected private individual formats*) for a truly equal race.
Drivers are weighed after registration, with the difference calculated between the heaviest driver and all others in the same group.
Ballast is then inserted into the required karts, using the specicially designed Sodi-ballast system, ‘weighing up’ every driver to a set weight. A popular option if you want the ultimate in equal racing, as the lighter drivers will no longer have the advantage.
